One man is dead and another is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle after a wreck in northern Mecklenburg County involving a motorcycle and a sport-utility vehicle.
Police identified the dead man as Kenneth Lavern Owens Jr., 40.
He was headed northeast on Huntersville-Concord Road near Metrolina Gardens around 3:15 p.m. on his Kawasaki motorcycle.
Police say a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by William Merle Holtzclaw was headed in the opposite direction and turned in the path of Owens’ motorcycle.
Police say Owens tried to brake and laid down his motorcycle on its right side, but separated from the vehicle and slid along the pavement, striking the SUV. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene of the crash.
It’s unclear if Owens was arrested in connection with the misdemeanor. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
