Friday morning’s heavy rains led to road closures in parts of the Charlotte region due to flooding concerns and disrupted Amtrak train service in the state.

Motorists are being advised to slow down and be cautious on the roads. Motorists who come to a location with high water should turn around and seek an alternate route.

The N.C. Department of Transportation closed these stretches of roads in Cabarrus County: Hopewell Church Road between Kiser and Garmon Mill roads; Lake Lynn Road at Twinfield Drive; Bowman Barrier Road between Long Run Farm and Eastover roads; Pharr Mill Road between Rocky River Road and Sequoia Hills; Hahn Scott Road at Lambert Road; and Pinebluff Road at Bluffton Drive.

But Cabarrus County Emergency Management officials are asking people traveling throughout the county to be careful of potential flooding.

Downed trees and power lines from the storm also have canceled some Amtrak service in North Carolina.

Canceled were the southbound Piedmont train that was to leave Raleigh at 11:45 a.m. as well as the northbound Piedmont train scheduled to depart Charlotte at 5:15 p.m.

The northbound Carolinian train that left Charlotte at 7 a.m. is still behind the northbound Amtrak Crescent train, which is stopped near Thomasville due to downed power lines.
