Midday traffic on Interstate 77 was slowed near the state line Tuesday after a grass fire broke out.

The fire was reported near mile marker 1 shortly after noon. The N.C. Department of Transportation said traffic in the southbound lanes was affected.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control a short time later. Some slowdowns were still being reported at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Otherwise, only a few problems are being reported early Tuesday afternoon on Charlotte-area roads.

One earlier problem that has been cleared is a wreck in the 4400 block of North Tryon Street. That multi-vehicle collision, just north of Sugar Creek Road, was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Injuries were reported in that wreck, and it caused traffic slowdowns for about an hour.

Here is the early-afternoon traffic check:

Rea Road lane closure ... Lane closures are planned on a daily basis between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the next two weeks on Rea Road, between Cool Springs Road and Providence Lane West. Crews will be doing maintenance work on the pipe culvert during that time. Motorists can expect delays.

I-85 lane closures in Charlotte ... The N.C. Department of Transportation will be closing lanes this week at I-485 in northeast Charlotte, as part of the project to build a turbine interchange.

The right three lanes of southbound I-85 will be closed from 9 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Wednesday between I-485 and Mallard Creek Church Road. Crews will be installing sign structures.

I-77 southbound, near mile marker 1 ... Traffic slowed by a grass fire; minor to moderate delays.

Mount Holly Road near I-485 ... Collision; moderate delays.

Steele Creek Road at Hamilton Road ... Collision; minor delays.
