A motorcyclist who veered off Oakdale Road and struck a fire hydrant on Tuesday has died of his injuries, police said Friday.
Michael Williams, 31, was speeding southbound shortly before 4 p.m. when he lost control of his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle while navigating a curve in the 1400 block near Dale Avenue, police said. He went off the right side of the road and into a yard before striking the hydrant.
Williams was wearing a helmet but lacked a motorcycle endorsement on his N.C. driver’s license, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective Kevin Allred said.
The motorcycle was being operated with an expired inspection, an expired tag, no liability insurance, and a revoked registration, Allred said.
Williams died in the hospital at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, Allred said.
Witnesses to the crash are asked to call Detective J.B. Reibold at 704-432-2169.
