A portion of Wesley Chapel-Stouts Road in Union County has been closed so crews can make repairs from recent flood damage, state transportation officials say.

The N.C. Department of Transportation said the road was closed Sunday night near Rocky River Road in Monroe for the emergency repairs. The DOT said it hopes to have the road reopened by Thursday morning.

Officials said recent flooding washed out part of the rail crossing on Wesley Chapel-Stouts Road. CSX railroad crews are making repairs this week. The crossing is about midway between U.S. 74 and Old Monroe Road.

The detour takes motorists on to U.S. 74, Rocky River Road and Old Monroe Road, then back to Wesley Chapel-Stouts Road.
