For the third year in a row, New Beginnings Church at 7027 Stillwell Road in Matthews treated the community to free gas on Good Friday as part of the congregation’s annual Easter celebration. Volunteers passed out $10,000 worth of gas gift cards to 250 drivers. The church kicked off the event in 2012 by giving away gas at a Sunoco station, attracting more than 300 motorists who waited up to three hours. To cut down on traffic problems, the church switched to gas cards.
