Pipeline testing scheduled in Cabarrus and Stanly counties

Piedmont Natural Gas will perform a routine inspection of a 30-mile stretch of natural gas pipeline in Cabarrus and Stanly counties Monday through Wednesday.
Piedmont might have to “flare,” or burn off any excess natural gas used in the inspection.
A “flare stack,” or large vertical pipe will be used for any flaring operations, which could produce a loud noise and result in a tall flame being visible to nearby neighborhoods and businesses, company spokesman David Trusty said.
The flare stack will be on Piedmont Natural Gas property near Midland, Locust and Stanfield.
Piedmont Natural Gas workers will perform the inspection and any flaring operations. Local firefighters also might be present.
