Today’s traffic: Streets dry -- in Charlotte

Heavy traffic volume and congestion are causing the biggest problems for Charlotte-area motorists at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday.
There are collisions on Brookshire Boulevard, Statesville Avenue in Huntersville, Huntersville-Concord Road, and Pleasant Road in Fort Mill. But the interstate highways are clear of problems at this time.
Streets are dry in the Charlotte area, so that won’t be a problem during the morning commute. It’s a different story to the northwest of Charlotte, where heavy rain has been falling for several hours. Motorists in the Hickory and Morganton areas should allow extra travel time this morning, due to ponding on major highways.
Here is the 8:20 a.m. update:
Trade Street closure ... One lane in each direction on East Trade Street, between Caldwell and College streets, was closed Tuesday morning until 6 p.m. Friday. The closure is needed for construction related to the streetcar project.
I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).
I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) down to Mallard Creek Church Road (Exit 46).
Huntersville-Concord Road at Poplar Tent Road, near Huntersville ... Collision with injuries; moderate delays.
Statesville Road, just south of Sam Furr Road, Huntersville ... Collision; moderate delays.
Statesville Road at Starita Road ... Earlier collision being cleared; minor delays.
Brookshire Boulevard at Pleasant Grove Road ... Collision; minor delays.
Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.
I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.
Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.
Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.
Providence Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the Arboretum area to Wendover Road.
I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.
Pleasant Road at Gold Hill Road, Fort Mill ... Collision; minor delays.
U.S. 321, Gaston County ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph in each direction between I-85 and Dallas-Cherryville Highway.
