The Union County school board Tuesday night chose Jim Bention to represent District 1 on an interim basis. That district was represented by John Crowder for 31 years, until he died March 9. Crowder, 77, was the longest-serving member on the nine-person school board. Bention will serve until voters choose someone to fill the remainder of Crowder’s term in the November election. Crowder’s term expires in November 2016. Adam Bell
