Three optometrists will provide free eye screenings, and audiologists will give free hearing tests when the Lions International of North Carolina Screening Vision and Hearing Van comes to town May 20.

The van will be in the Christian Mission of Mooresville/Lake Norman parking lot at 266 N. Broad St. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

No appointment is necessary, and each patient will also receive blood-pressure and blood-glucose level checks.

Optometrists from the Eye Care Center, Vision Eye Center and Eyes on Lake Norman will provide eye care services, while audiologists from Lake Breeze ENT will provide the screenings for hearing-related issues.

Patients will be tested for visual acuity, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetes.

The event is sponsored by six Lake Norman-area Lions clubs, HealthReach Community Clinic, the Christian Mission and Mooresville Soup Kitchen.

“Our Vision Van was a great success last year, and in a few hours we tested 100 people who would not have had access to those types of tests otherwise,” said Susan Wolff of HealthReach Community Clinic. “Eye disorders can be a signal that another disease is present, such as diabetes.”
