Shelby teen killed in early morning shooting

Shelby Police are investigating the shooting death of a local teen that occurred early Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Hannah Carol Bickley, 17, of Shelby, police said Saturday afternoon.

At 2:38 a.m., officers responded to a call about a possible armed robbery and shooting on Holder Drive.

En route, officers were flagged down on Broad Street by a man who said a woman inside his vehicle had been shot on Holder Drive.

Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford said officers found Bickley in the vehicle with a single gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Ledford, Bickley was driving the vehicle with a male passenger inside around 2 a.m. Saturday. When they stopped on Holder Drive they were approached by a man who attempted to rob them, pulled a gun and fired.
