Catawba County deputies say the victim of a drowning Sunday morning was a Charlotte man on a fishing trip.
The Sheriff’s Office said Richard Cain, 39, died after a boat in which he was fishing overturned. It took place about 11:30 a.m. at Murray’s Mill pond, a few miles south of the town of Catawba.
Authorities said Cain and a relative were fishing a short distance north of the Murray’s Mill dam, when their boat overturned. The relative swam safely to shore, but Cain disappeared.
Catawba County rescue teams arrived quickly, authorities said, but it took nearly two hours to find Cain’s body.
