Officials are expected to close three of four lanes on Beatties Ford Road on Wednesday afternoon for sewer line construction.

The closure will force inbound traffic to detour through a neighborhood, and only one lane will be available for outbound traffic.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department said the inbound lanes of Beatties Ford Road will be closed between Cemetery and French streets. That is between the Johnson C. Smith University campus and the Brookshire Freeway.

The work was to have started Wednesday morning but has been delayed until midday or early afternoon.

Inbound traffic will be detoured onto Cemetery Street and then on French Street, back to Beatties Ford Road. Outbound traffic will be funneled into one lane.

Mecklenburg Avenue closure ... Mecklenburg Avenue was closed Wednesday morning, between Lynhaven Street and Fort Street, for about a month. The closure is needed to install curbs, gutters, sidewalks, accessible ramps and pavement marking.

A signed detour has been set up, using Winter Street, Marguerite Avenue, Matheson Avenue and Daniel Street.
