Monroe officials expect to name a new city manager in the next couple weeks, the fifth manager since late 2000.
In December, the city council named retired Statesville city manager Robert Hites as interim manager. At a meeting this week, the board extended his contract for about two months although he could leave sooner depending on when the new manager starts.
City leaders were working on the details of the new manager’s contract, Monroe spokesman Pete Hovanec said.
Hites replaced John D’Agostino, who was ousted by a divided city council after only serving since mid-August.
The city is also expected to name a new city attorney to replace Terry Sholar, who had retired.
