Thunder storms downed trees and power lines in several counties west of Charlotte on Friday afternoon, but preliminary reports showed no major injuries.

Dime- to quarter-sized hail was reported in Rutherford and Cleveland Counties just after 1:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

NWS storm spotters and county officials reported that thunderstorm winds downed trees off West Cook and Golden Valley Roads and off N.C. 226 between Shelby and Kingtson in Cleveland County between 2:15 and 3 p.m.

Shortly before 4 p.m., trees fell on at least two homes and across roads in Gastonia and Dallas in Gaston County, and large tree limbs damaged a carport on Jessica Lane in Dallas, according to NWS reports and county officials.

There were several reports of power lines that had been blown down around Gaston County, but Duke Energy reported fewer than 40 customers were without power at 9 p.m.
