Divers and other recovery crews on Saturday morning recovered the body of a Union County teen who drowned Thursday evening while fishing with his grandfather at a lake near Monroe.
Authorities confirmed the body of 18-year-old Malique Streater was located in Lake Twitty around 9 a.m.
On Thursday, authorities said he suffered a seizure and fell into the lake a short distance from the dam at the reservoir.
Streater was a rising senior at Forest Hill High School, family members said.
Firefighters from Monroe were joined by a dive team of firefighters from Charlotte in searching the lake.
Peter Hovanec, a spokesman for the city of Monroe, called the search “a great joint effort.”
“They were happy to bring a little closure to the family,” he said.
