Woman, two cats rescued from Kannapolis house fire

Firefighters rescued a woman and two cats from a Kannapolis house fire on Tuesday.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7:34 a.m. to a house in the 1500 block of Independence Square, off Rogers Lake Road.
Arriving within four minutes of the call, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the home.
The woman was evaluated by Cabarrus County EMS.
Assisting Kannapolis firefighters at the home were Cabarrus County EMS personnel, Kannapolis police and Landis firefighters.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
