Today’s traffic: I-77, Independence slow to recover

Congestion on I-485 and I-77 and a few collisions are causing problems for motorists at 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

The heaviest part of the Thursday morning commute has ended, but traffic remains sluggish at 9:15 a.m. on northbound Interstate 77 in south Charlotte and on inbound East Independence Boulevard.

A wreck near Nations Ford Road around 8 a.m. caused slowdowns on I-77, and it has been difficult to recover.

On Independence Boulevard, a collision near Bojangles Coliseum earlier this morning is still causing slowdowns.

Here is the 9:15 a.m. update:

North

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-35 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

East

Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road. Also, moderate delays near Harrisburg Road.

Central Avenue at Rosehaven Drive ... Collision with minor delays.

Southeast

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-35 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.

Sardis Road at Shasta Lane ... Collision; minor delays.

South

I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.

Sharon Road at Hazelton Drive ... Collision; minor delays.

West

Billy Graham Parkway ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph between West Boulevard and I-85.
