Today’s traffic: Slow spots scattered in area

There are no major traffic problems in the Charlotte region at 8:25 a.m. Monday, but motorists are contending with a number of smaller-scale headaches.

Congestion is now a problem on I-485’s inner loop and southbound I-77 in the Lake Norman area.

And several collisions are slowing traffic on routes such as Albemarle Road, Gilead Road, South Boulevard and Central Avenue.

Here is the 8:25 a.m. update:

Center City

East Trade Street closure ... Construction problems have delayed the reopening of East Trade Street, between College and Caldwell streets. The road was closed May 27 and was to have reopened early this month, but city transportation officials now say it will be Aug. 11 before the road is open again.

The closure is due to construction on the trolley project.

North

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

Gilead Road at I-77 ... Collision; moderate delays.

East

Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion and a collision at Farm Pond Lane; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.

Central Avenue west of Eastway Drive ... Collision; minor delays.

Southeast

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

I-485 inner loop, Matthews-Mint Hill ... Vehicle fire between Idlewild Road and U.S. 74; moderate delays.

Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.

South

I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.

South Boulevard at Arrowood Road ... Collision; moderate delays.

West

Billy Graham Parkway ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph between West Boulevard and I-85.

Steele Creek Road at Westinghouse Boulevard ... Collision; moderate delays.

Union County

N.C. 200, north of Unionville ... N.C. 200 will be closed between New Salem Road and Old Camden Road south of Unionville from 9 a.m. Monday through mid-October. Crews will be replacing the bridge of Chinkapin Creek. The detour will follow N.C. 200, Old Camden Road and New Salem Road.

Fincher Road, near Indian Trail ... This road will be closed in both directions near Indian Trail so crews can replace a pipe culvert that is failing. The closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. Monday until 9 a.m. July 21. The detour will follow Potter Road, Chestnut Road, Old Monroe Road and Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road.

York County

I-77, near Fort Mill ... Wreck blocking the right lane between S.C. 160 (Exit 85) and S.C. 98 (Exit 88); minor delays.
