Family members say a 4-year-old boy has died after a near-drowning incident Friday night at Mountain Island Lake.
Aven Dean Stone died Sunday at Carolinas Medical Center, according to a message posted by the family on a web page set up to raise money for the child’s medical costs. Aven had been taken to the hospital Friday night by emergency medical personnel after the incident, in the 12000 block of Abernathy Road in northwest Mecklenburg County.
Aven was attending a family Fourth of July outing when he disappeared in the water. A family member said medical officials determined the child was underwater between five and seven minutes before being rescued.
The family is trying to raise $5,000 to pay for medical and funeral bills. Donations can be made at the family’s GoFundMe page.
