S.C. county hires assistant county manager in Union

Matthew Delk, Union County’s assistant county manager since 2007, has been named administrator of Pickens County, S.C.

Pickens is about 20 miles west of Greenville, S.C. The county council unanimously approved Delk’s hire on Thursday.

Prior to his stint in Union County, Delk served as county manager of Halifax County, and in lead and deputy county administrator posts in Bamberg and Allendale counties in South Carolina.

Delk is a major in the S.C. National Guard. He has received combat decorations, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He starts his new job on Aug. 25. Celeste Smith
