Crews are scheduled to begin work Wednesday on another traffic roundabout in Union County, affecting a main route between Monroe and the western Union County towns of Wesley Chapel, Weddington and Marvin.

The N.C. Department of Transportation said crews will close the intersection of N.C. 84 (Weddington Road) and Airport Road at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The intersection is scheduled to be closed through 6 a.m. Sept. 8.

During that time, motorists will have to detour on a route using Rocky River, Goldmine, Wesley Chapel, Potter and Newtown roads.

When the roundabout is completed, motorists will enter a one-way intersection in which they yield to circulating traffic.

Union County already has a roundabout at the intersection of Waxhaw-Indian Trail and Potters roads, and another roundabout is under construction near Unionville on Sikes Mill Road.
