Officials in Gaston County resumed their search of Mountain Island Lake Friday morning for a possible drowning victim who jumped from the N.C. 16 Mountain Island Bridge on Thursday night.

Officials said the possible drowning was reported around 7:30 p.m. after they believe the man jumped for recreational fun, rather than as an attempted suicide.

Charlotte Fire Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are assisting in the search, joining Gaston police and the Lucia Riverbend Fire Departments, among others.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
