A 19-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a tree, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
Reid Sampson was driving a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle on West Tyvola Road near Interstate 77, police said. Investigators said that when he applied the brake, his motorcycle slid into the right curb and fell on its right side. The bike continued forward, while Sampson was thrown from it.
Paramedics declared him dead at the scene at around 1:45 p.m.
Police are still investigating, but said speed and alcohol don’t appear to be factors in the crash. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the wreck to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or contact CMPD Detective Steve Williams at 704-336-8862.
