Newton has been selected with four other N.C. Public Power communities to receive an electric vehicle charging station.

In partnership with Catawba County, Newton will locate the station at the Newton branch of the Catawba County Public Library, 115 W. C St.

The station will be installed at the end of the month, city officials announced Wednesday.

Other cities receiving stations are Edenton, Tarboro, Smithfield and Wake Forest. Wake Forest will install two stations.

A seventh station will be installed at ElectriCities of North Carolina in Raleigh.

ElectriCities was awarded a $59,892 grant to help pay for the stations through the North Carolina Solar Center Clean Fuel Advanced Technology Project.
