Congestion and a couple of collisions on major roads are combining to slow traffic for many Charlotte-area commuters at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Congestion is slowing traffic on both the inner and outer loops of Interstate 485 in southern Mecklenburg County and on southbound I-77 in the Huntersville-north Charlotte area.
Wrecks are being reported on Beatties Ford Road at I-85 and on College Street at Stonewall Street, among other locations.

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.
Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion and a wreck at East W.T. Harris Boulevard; traffic moving 15-20 mph from Margaret Wallace Road to Harris Boulevard; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.
Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.
Providence Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the Arboretum area to Wendover Road.
I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion and a wreck near Clanton Road; traffic moving 10-20 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.
