Vehicle smashes into Matthews pizza restaurant

A female customer suffered minor injuries when pushed from the vehicle’s path, police said.

A car crashed into the dining area of Pie Five restaurant in Matthews shortly before 2:30 p.m. Friday. The vehicle didn’t hit anyone in the pizza restaurant, located at 1915 Matthews Township Parkway, police said. The driver was uninjured. A female customer suffered minor injuries after she was pushed out of the path of the vehicle, police said. The car crashed into the building when the driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, Matthews police Officer Tim Aycock said. No charges are expected to be filed, Aycock said.
