N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarah Parker, 72, has dined for many years with her high-court colleagues at The Mecca restaurant in downtown Raleigh. Tuesday marked her last lunch there before turning over the chief justice job to Mark Martin, and The Mecca made it special. Parker, above right, thanks waitress Annette Dunn for the gift certificate to the restaurant that Dunn gave her. “She’s not only a customer,” said Dunn, who has worked at The Mecca for more than 20 years. “She’s a friend.” Parker, of Charlotte, who officially retires from the court at the end of the month, said the Supreme Court justices have been going to The Mecca since the early ’90s. “Let’s just say I’m a regular,” she said. Mecca owner Floye Dombalis had special cupcakes made to honor the occasion.
