Bob Bishop has launched his latest holiday drive to collect oatmeal for the region’s homeless.
Bishop, a deacon at Myers Park Baptist Church, says he is starting his annual “Oatmeal & Staple Food Drive” 15 days early this year due to the “urgent need of food” among the homeless.
Donated oatmeal, flour, grits, sugar, canned goods and other nonperishable items will go to shelters, food banks and other groups that help the homeless in the Charlotte region.
Donors can drop off food at the Heaton Hall foyer or the Cornwell Center at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road, or at Rudy’s Italian Restaurant & Bar, 6414 Rea Road.
Never miss a local story.
Last year’s drive collected more than 60 tons of oatmeal – enough for more than 2 million breakfasts.
Those who would like to donate money can make checks payable to MPBC and send them to the Rev. Barry Metzger, MPBC Oatmeal Drive, 1900 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207. Write “Oatmeal Drive 2014/15” on the check memo line.
