The Charlotte area’s interstate highways are clear of collisions and other lane blockages at 9:05 a.m. Friday, and congestion is surprisingly not a major problem.
But there are a number of troubles on secondary roads in the region.
The biggest problem is on Monroe Road, just east of Wendover Road. A collision that involved a trapped motorist forced police to close both the inbound and outbound lanes at times. The wreck damaged a water hydrant, and utilities crews have been called to make repairs.
Motorists can expect delays in the area until at least 10 a.m.
Meanwhile, motorists in Charlotte’s uptown will have to deal with a pair of street closures this weekend, due to the 12th annual Q-City Charlotte Barbecue Championship scheduled from Friday through Sunday. The festival is forcing the closure of South Tryon Street, between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Fifth Street; and Third Street, between Church and College streets.
