Only one lane of North Tryon Street is open in each direction north of Charlotte’s uptown Wednesday morning due to downed power lines.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a tractor-trailer clipped the lines about 4:45 a.m. on North Tryon near the Brookshire Freeway. The driver of the truck was trying to make a U-turn when the vehicle hit the lines.
The traffic signal at the nearby intersection of North Tryon and 16th streets is not working as a result of the incident.
Duke Energy crews are on the scene to make repairs. All lanes of North Tryon Street were closed for about an hour after the incident, but police were able to open a lane in each direction about 5:45 a.m.
