Greenway Park Elementary School now has a new patio area for preschool students, thanks to 17-year-old Katie Thomas’s Girl Scout Gold Award project.
Thomas unveiled the project, a year in the making, at an open house Thursday at the school. It turned a once-unusable area into an extension of the school’s classrooms.
Katie, with the help of her father, learned how to use a jigsaw to cut out all the designed pieces on the patio. She said she got the idea for creating these educational hands-on pieces from her days of learning at a Montessori school.
