Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have identified the man who died Thursday when he failed to get out of the way of a Norfolk Southern freight train while walking on tracks beside North Tryon Street, just north of uptown.
Jarvis Tyree Glover, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene.
As the train passed 16th Street, the conductor saw a man on the tracks, sounded the warning horn and bell and applied the emergency brakes, police said. But the train was unable to stop before striking Glover at about 6:40 p.m., police said.
The crash is being investigated by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit. Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Detective Kevin Allred at 704-432-2169.
