Three wildfires burned about 50 acres in eastern Watauga County on Tuesday, officials said.
No injuries were reported and no buildings damaged in the blazes, which broke out along Jakes Mountain Road, in a remote area not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway and near Elk Creek. That is east of Boone.
County officials said Wednesday morning that the blazes were contained shortly before midnight Tuesday.
The first fire was reported about 6 p.m., and the other fires broke out about 10 p.m. Authorities closed Jakes Mountain Road while they set up containment lines.

Crews remained at the scene Wednesday morning. Investigators are working to determine what caused the blazes.
