A man took his own life after fatally shooting his sister and another family member, and wounding his mother in a triple-shooting at a home in Cabarrus County Wednesday, according to deputies.
Reginald Wyniel Mercer, 30, was found deceased just before 6 p.m. Officials say he took his own life.
Officers responded to a home, near the 2400 block of Shiloh Church Road, just before 1 p.m. after Brenda Jackson, Mercer's mother, called 911 and said that Mercer had shot her and her daughter.
When deputies arrived at the home, Jackson met them outside and told them that her daughter, Qutina Carter, had been shot and was still inside with Mercer. Jackson, who had also been shot, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Northeast. She is expected to be okay.
WBTV's Sky 3 was over the scene where officers could be seen, rifles drawn, focusing on the single-story white house. Police tape was blocking the driveway where attention was centered around a white SUV.
Investigators later said that in the back seat of that SUV was the body of Albert Jackson Sr., who they say had also been shot to death. Albert Jackson was also related to the family, but officials have not confirmed what that relationship is.
About 4 p.m., SWAT officers went into the home where they found Qutina Carter deceased. Mercer was no longer in the house.
A short time later, deputies learned that Mercer was possibly in the home across the street from the crime scene. SWAT then entered that home and found Mercer deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No one else was inside the residence.
A cause for the incident has not been determined, but deputies say they are investigating.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office at 704-920-3000.
