A Union County woman was killed early Saturday in a single-vehicle wreck a few miles west of Monroe, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.
The victim, identified as Rashonda Denise Rushing, 26, of Indian Trail, was among four people in a pick-up truck that crashed about 2 a.m. on N.C. 84 near Willoughby Road. The wreck took place about two miles west of the site where a North Carolina corrections officer died in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday.
Troopers said the truck was carrying four people when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. The truck overturned several times and landed on its roof in the yard of a resident.
The other occupants of the vehicle suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol said it is continuing to investigate the crash.
Early Tuesday morning, 61-year-old William Womack Jr. died when his car slammed into a brick sign on N.C. 84 at the entrance of the Willoughby Woods subdivision. Troopers said Womack was driving about 100 mph at the time of the crash.
