One of Charlotte’s most beloved firefighters, a Fire K-9 named Titan, passed away Monday, after years of participating in countless fire investigations across the community.
Charlotte Firefighters Local 660 made the announcement via a Facebook post just after midnight Tuesday. Titan was age 11 and officially listed as ‘retired.’ He served with the Charlotte Fire Department Investigations Task Force from 2006 to 2011.
“We are saddened to announce our beloved retired Fire K-9 Titan passed away after a bout with cancer. For those of you who had the chance to meet him, you know how special he was,” said the post.
“During his career, he played an integral part of many fire investigations that helped to confirm and convict many of those involved arson cases. (He was) an invaluable asset for the Charlotte Fire Department, ATF and surrounding counties or jurisdictions with assistance in fire investigations.”
Never miss a local story.
Titan was well known to thousands of school children in the area, for participating in many fire education programs with his “stop, drop and roll” and “crawl low” demonstrations.
“We miss you “Big T. Rest easy, pal,” the post concludes.
