An investigation into a car wreck that killed a North Mecklenburg High cheerleader and seriously injured a senior football player could take two or three more weeks, Huntersville police said Tuesday.
En’Joneah Reel was killed in the wreck on Thursday that injured her boyfriend, Kalvin McCollum, a star linebacker at the school.
The Observer’s news partner, WBTV, reported that the crash was a head-on collision that happened about 5 p.m. near the intersection of Beatties Ford Road and McCoy Road.
North Mecklenburg officials told the Observer that Reel was killed on impact. McCollum was taken to a local hospital. His condition was unavailable Tuesday.
At the Huntersville Police Department on Tuesday, police declined to release any details about the wreck until their investigation is finished.
A Home Going Service for En’Joneah is scheduled for noon Wednesday with visitation at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Community Church, 7027 Stillwell Road, Matthews.
