Police believe a pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol when hit and killed by a car on Providence Road Saturday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said David Eugene Flowers, 41, was trying to cross Providence Road near Queens University of Charlotte at 11:40 p.m.
Officers said the pedestrian stepped off the curb directly into the path of a Volvo and was pronounced dead on scene. The pedestrian was not walking in a crosswalk.
Police said the 21-year-old driver tried to brake but did not have enough time to avoid the collision.
The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
