Women honored: The Concord-Cabarrus Business and Professional Women's Club recently honored two people for their leadership roles in the community.
Pam Outen, the family and consumer science extension agent for the Cabarrus County Cooperative Extension and Community Association, was named the club's Woman of the Year. She has worked for local extension services since 1973.
Susan Caudle, executive director of the Coltrane Life Center in Concord, was named the club's Employer of the Year. Caudle has run the center since 1995.

Community grant: The Cabarrus Health Alliance was one of eight groups around the country to be awarded a $15,000 grant by the National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality to help fight childhood obesity.
The grant will allow the alliance and the other groups to train, support and provide technical assistance to healthcare professionals in obesity prevention work.
Charity fundraiser: The fifth annual Festival of Trees is being held Friday through Tuesday at the Concord Hotel, 14 Union St., Concord. The event is presented by the Mariam Hayes Society to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County, and includes a ball, children's events and a lunch.
