Donations distributed: Speedway Children's Charities distributed more than $854,000 to 93 local organizations last week during a ceremony at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"It's a blessing that we're able to assist so many each year," said speedway president Marcus Smith. His father, Bruton Smith, founded the nonprofit group. The group raised the money through fundraising activities as well as with individual and corporate donations.
The money is going to groups in the region that benefit children, including Hispanic Learning Center of Cabarrus County, Communities in Schools of Cabarrus County, Cabarrus County Partnership for Children and the Arc of Cabarrus County.
