New principal: Michelle Alexander will join Cannon School as head of Lower School (grades junior kindergarten-4) effective July 1. Alexander presently serves as director of Diversity Programs and Community Outreach at the Seven Hills School in Cincinnati, Ohio, the largest independent nonsectarian school in the state. She will be awarded a Master of Education (Ed.M.) in educational policy studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in December 2010. She and her husband, Raymond, have three children.

Information night: Curriculum Night and Walk the Schedule Night will be held Thursday, Feb. 25. Walk the Schedule for current students and parents will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Curriculum Night assembly for rising ninth-graders and parents will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. A Registration Fair for current students and rising ninth-graders and parents will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the commons and the gym.
Hickory Ridge High
Top team member: Each month the faculty and staff vote for the Team Member of the Month based on Hickory Ridge's set of core values. For the month of February, counselor. Natalie Atwell was chosen based on the U in Bulls, which stands for understanding.
President's list: James D. Burns, son of Ed and Amy Burns of Concord, has been named to the President's List for the 2009 fall semester at Elon University. The President's List is composed of students who had no grade below an A- minus in a minimum of 12 semester hours. James is a 2006 graduate of Jay M Robinson High School in Concord. He is majoring in Exercise Sports Science.
Naming old school: There will be a public hearing regarding the naming of the old A. T. Allen School building, which will be used for a preschool program, offices and staff development on Monday, March 8 at 6 p.m. The hearing will be held in the board room of the Education Center, 4401 Old Airport Road. Naming forms must be submitted to the board clerk prior to the hearing. Naming forms may be found at www.ccsweb.cabarrus.k12.nc.us. Royals Oaks Elementary
Stuffed animal collection: During the month of February, Royal Oaks Elementary School is conducting a Teddy Bears for Kids in Crisis Drive. Students will collect used and new stuffed animals to benefit kids in crisis. The stuffed animals will be donated to local fire and police departments at a ceremony planned March 25.
