NASCAR team donates car: Mooresville-based Red Bull Racing recently donated a Sprint Cup Series Toyota to Rowan-Cabarrus Community College's Motorsports Management Technology program. The car provided by the NASCAR Sprint Cup team, which fields cars for drivers Brian Vickers and Scott Speed, will allow students to see how Sprint Cup Series cars are designed and manufactured. RCCC's Motorsports Management Technology program is the first accredited motorsports-degreed program in the U.S. and teaches students about both the business and technical functions of the motorsports industry.
Edwards to speak at fundraiser: NASCAR driver Carl Edwards will speak at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County's annual fundraising dinner 5:30 p.m. March 23. The third annual "It Just Takes One Dinner" will feature a buffet, entertainment and guest speakers, including Edwards. Sponsorship opportunities and individual tickets are available. Road closures: Concord stormwater service crews closed Freedom Street Southwest at 357 Freedom St. S.W. and Creek Trail Southeast, at 314 Creek Trail S.E. last week for construction. Both roads are expected to re-open by Friday. The Overbrook Drive Northeast road closure has been extended due to weather delays. The road is now expected to re-open by March 19.
