NASCAR driver Carl Edwards will be the special guest and speaker at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County's annual fundraising dinner March23.
"We are thrilled to have such a talented athlete agree to participate in our event," said Mike Blackwelder, development director for the Boys & Girls Club. "It has been increasingly difficult to raise money in the current economy. We are confident that this event will help bring additional revenue to the club to help support its vital programs."
The dinner is scheduled to start at 5:30p.m., with the program at 6:15.
The night's message will focus on healthy lifestyles for children, Blackwelder said.
Edwards drives the No.99 Ford Fusion for Mooresville-based Roush Fenway Racing.
His accomplishments include 2003 Truck series rookie of the year, 2007 champion in what currently is the Nationwide Series, and was 2008 Richard Petty Driver of the Year by the National Motorsports Press Association and NASCAR.com Driver of the Year.
In 2009, Edwards finished 11th in the Sprint Cup standings and second in the Nationwide Series standings.
