A helicopter will drop 20,000 plastic eggs with prizes inside onto the Troutman Middle School football field Saturday.
Sponsored by Watermark Church, the Great Troutman Egg Drop is for ages 12 and younger. Every egg will contain a coupon for a prize, including such special ones as an XBox 360 or Wii game system, iPods, gifts cards and cash.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and the egg drop at 11 a.m.
Before the egg drop, a play zone will be available for preschoolers and another one for older children. There will be inflatable bounce houses, slide and an obstacle course.
Immediately after the helicopter drops the eggs, children ages 3 to 12 will collect the eggs on the field, which will be divided by age into three sections
Joel Settle, Watermark's lead pastor, said the church got the idea from one in Charlotte. "It has never been done in our area before, so we are looking forward to it," he said. "It should be pretty cool."
Watermark Church opened in January 2008 and holds services at Troutman Middle School at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. The church offers a children's ministry called "KidsPort" during the service.
