When you were much younger, did you want to be a firefighter or a police officer when you grew up?
Even if you are grown up now and chose another career, come and remember your little-kid dreams as you cheer for the Cornelius police or volunteer firefighters at the second annual Guns vs. Hoses Charity Softball game from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Torrence Chapel Park.
All proceeds will go to support the parks in memory of police officers Jeff Shelton and Sean Clark. Back in 2007, Officers Clark and Shelton were shot and killed after responding to a disturbance call.
The Bailey Middle School Athletic Boosters will serve concessions: Donato's Pizza. Souvenir T-shirts will be for sale, and there will be activities for kids, including an inflatable bounce house.
Last year, the fire department won. This year the fire department wants to repeat, while the police department plans to avenge last year's defeat.

Nutrition Weight Loss Challenge
Join the Lake Norman Nutrition Weight Loss Challenge, lose weight and maybe win money. The program is an 11-week commitment, from 6:30 to 7 p.m. each Thursday, at Bailey Road Recreation Center. It runs April 15 to June 24.
Participants weigh and measure the first week, weigh in each subsequent week and are measured again at the end. At the weekly classes, participants discuss health topics.
The fee is $35 per participant. Half the cash collected goes to the person who loses the largest percentage of body weight, 30 percent to second place and 20 percent to third place. There are monetary penalties for weight gainers and missed classes, and that money gets paid to the biggest inch loser who did not win the cash prizes. Register at the Cornelius Town Hall.
Gary and Pat Berch of the Daily Shake in Cornelius will lead the challenge. For more information call 704-765-1450 or visit www.cornelius pr.org/lakenormanweightloss challenge .
