The North Carolina High School Athletic Association recognized three local teams for their work in the classroom.
Cox Mill had two teams honored by the NCHSAA. The Chargers' girls' tennis and women's cross country teams were recognized for having team grade point averages of 3.700 and a 3.820 respectively. Mount Pleasant's cheerleading squad, with a team GPA of 3.650 in the fall, was also honored.
Cox Mill ranked second in honored teams behind Surry Central, which had three.
A varsity team earns Scholar-Athlete recognition by attaining a 3.1 aggregate GPA on a 4.0 scale for a designated semester.
The schools will receive a certificate from the NCHSAA honoring the accomplishment of each team. Members of the winning squads will also receive a certificate.
