In case you're new to this area, I'll remind you that this week - the week before Memorial Day - is Race Week in this area.
There are lots of races at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord and lots of entertainment at Speed Street in uptown Charlotte.
Michael Waltrip Racing invites fans to attend "Fan Fest" Wednesday at MWR headquarters. Starting at 9 a.m., there will be free admission to the race shop and interactive displays. Fans can watch the team prepare for the Coca-Cola 600.
MWR driver David Reutimann said, "Michael Waltrip Racing has so much to offer as far as what fans can actually see and be a part of.... We have a good time doing it."
Never miss a local story.
Michael Waltrip, Reutimann and the other MWR drivers will sign autographs: Reutimann and Trevor Bayne 4-5 p.m., and Waltrip, Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Truex, Marcos Ambrose and Tim Brown 6-8 p.m. Brown, a modified racer, stars in the History Channel's reality series "Madhouse."
Country artist Matt Dylan will perform. There will be a family carnival, pit stop practices, a racing simulator and games. Businesses and vendors will have displays, including the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Starting at 4 p.m., Mac's Speed Shop will have food, Lance and Little Debbie will serve dessert, and Coca-Cola will provide drinks.
My favorite part will be the Charlotte debut of David Reutimann's No. 00 Talladega car, which honors Alabama's 2009 national champion football team. Roll Tide!
"It's very important for Michael Waltrip Racing to show all our fans what their support means to us," Michael Waltrip said. "Everyone here realizes that the fans are the reason we are where we are today. It's our turn to return the favor and invite them for a fun time at our race shop." Details: www.michaelwaltrip.com.

Navigate Cornelius is a townwide effort to use information from Cornelius residents, property owners and business owners to make a plan for the town's future goals and principles, as well as a plan for how our money will be used. This information will be gathered in a series of focus group meetings.
Despite what has been written and explained before, I couldn't figure out what a "diverging diamond" interchange is and how it will help me get off Exit 28 and to my home faster.
If you can't visualize it, go to www.Cornelius.org, click on the picture of the "diverging diamond," and see a video of one in action. It helped me understand.
