Starting July 1, Republic Services will handle the garbage, yard waste and recycling pickup for Cornelius residents and small businesses.
Garbage will still be picked up on the same days as now. Recycling will be collected every other week.
We'll get new green 96-gallon garbage carts and blue 64-gallon recycling carts beginning Wednesday.
The week of June 24, after they have been emptied, leave your old garbage cart and recycling bins at the curb, and they'll be picked up.
Never miss a local story.

The Aspiring Artists Exhibit lasts until June 30. Works in various mediums are on display and for sale.
Joye Moon's Watercolor Workshop, Sept. 9-11, will explore traditional and experimental watercolor techniques for artists with basic watercolor skills or with extensive experience. Class will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is $275.
Cornelius outdoor cinema series
Starting Wednesday, bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and join the Cornelius PARC Department for movies under the stars.
The free movies are shown on an inflatable blimp-like screen at various locations. Showings begin at dusk, about 8:30 p.m. Refreshments are available for purchase.
Host locations are the Gazebo at Jetton Village, parks throughout town, at the town hall on July 4 and at the "boat-in" at Ramsey Creek Park on Aug. 21. At the boat-in, you can see the movie from land or from your boat. Boaters listen to the movie on a designated radio channel.
