Railroad project: About 80 people attended a June 24 presentation from N.C. Department of Transportation officials on a railroad project that would bring an additional track to a 12.2-mile stretch through Harrisburg. Many residents expressed concern about plans that would close several grade crossings and build bridges to replace them. Another public hearing will be scheduled.
Stormwater fee: A new stormwater fee went into effect July 1 for property within town limits: $4.64 per month for single-family homes and $4.64 per equivalent residential unit on non-residential property. The fee will pay for a federally mandated stormwater program and improve drainage issues in Harrisburg.
